I have had the distinct pleasure of working Pam on a major business transformation – it was heralded “the biggest transformation to our function in over 2 decades”. The goal was enormous, the impact was massive. Pam’s role was the Change Manager (which she did brilliantly), but she became so much more than that to the 400 employees. In 2014 , I engaged with Pam while working for BigW. I had an opportunity to become a better version of myself. I was not proud of my behaviour or the perception of me in the workplace. While my technical abilities were where they needed to be, my communication and personal presentation needed work. I needed to gain some business education if I wanted to be heard in a corporate workplace.
My manager suggested I find a mentor to "grab a coffee with once a month and get some perspective on what else is going on in the business". I approached Pam with this tag-line and was quickly informed me that's not quite how it works! The next few months were intense. Pam guided me through a process of personal realisation and actualisation and educated me on business specific topics including structure & language. I became someone who no longer disrupted the workplace in a negative way, but understood how to articulate my viewpoint in a relevant and professional manner.
Within 12 months of working together, the business started listening to me and I gained my first leadership role which had a whole bevy of challenges. Again Pam supported me and guided me to the tools to be successful.
Most recently my role at BigW has become redundant as a result of a business restructure. I am confident that I will continue to learn and evolve. A whole new world awaits and I can't wait!
